I have been reading self-development books regularly for many years, and I noticed that after some time I forgot most of the ideas that I learned before. Writing some key concepts or thoughts about the author's viewpoint can be very helpful to keep the knowledge in mind for a longer time.
Writing improves thinking ability. Writing the central concepts extracted from the reading by your mind requires some effort. Because we make our mind think on the topic and produce organized sentences describing the content. With this exercise, our brain tries to remember what we have been read, makes stronger links between memory dots, and improves the brain's cognitive ability.
Once you apply this habit into your life, the next time when you read a book you start thinking of collecting the key ideas and trying to remember them and write them later. That is your reading comprehension skill will also improve.
Writing is a productivity tool. It is mentioned as one of the very helpful productivity practices in many self-help books. It improves our thinking ability, makes us productive in our work, business, learning, etc.
In this blog, I write takeaways and lessons from the books that I read, and my thoughts about productivity and self-development. And this is a kind of sharing knowledge with others too.
I encourage you to write and practice to write. Thank you for reading!
