Takeaways from Reading with the Right Brain

Reading with the Right Brain: Read Faster by Reading Ideas Instead of Just Words
by David Butler

This book is easy to read and helpful to improve one's reading and comprehension ability. If you want to improve your reading skill, this book might be a useful one. The author introduces some of the approaches of productive reading to practice and I think those techniques can help us to become better readers. Here are some of my lessons from this book:

  • Comprehension is essential rather than speed in reading.
  • Focus on keywords in a sentence instead of reading every word one by one.
  • Read the ideas, try to stick with ideas that the author is addressing.
  • Visualize the concepts, think about ideas, and create pictures of the objects in a story in your mind.
  • Practice reading a lot.

The author also explains the history and evaluation of reading techniques and declines some of the so-called "techniques" about a speed reading. I recommend reading this book and you can benefit to improve your reading ability.
