Takeaways from the Book: The One Thing

The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller

The book talks about finding out the one thing that would positively impact all areas of one's life, giving full attention to it, and working hard on it. In this book, you may find some similar ideas mentioned in other self-help books too. However, it is a good read, and I think you will benefit from it.
Here are some lessons I extracted from this book.

  1. Find out your one thing that matters the most, focusing on one task increases the intensity of concentration. Task accomplishment or success rate is highly correlated to a time spent with a deep focus.
  2. A single domino can topple all the dominos in a line.  Push your starting domino in your project that can sequentially advance the next thing in a row.
  3. Narrow down your priorities, select the one thing that you should deal with it for a given time. Eliminate many, go with a few, and avoid multitasking.
  4. Building the right habit provides a skill of discipline. Spend enough time that your task required to accomplish.
  5. By the time the strength of willpower weakens, take advantage of early hours when your willpower boosts, schedule your important task at this time (like early morning, after the rest, etc.).
  6. Think big, act big, and achieve big.
  7. Asking questions improves our focus on a task and provides clarity in a process. Find out your Why. Be specific in your questions and answers.
  8. Setting goals drives us to the direction on target.
  9. Block your time. Set a certain period of time in a day and stay only with your task on hand. It improves focus and productivity.

Thank you for reading!
