Language Learning Tips

Knowing another language provides opportunities in many walks of life, especially in business by adding value to your skills. We can learn about the people who speak in other languages through their languages. Here, I share some of my tips regarding language learning. These tips are about overall mental preparation and understanding the process.

  1. The process. First thing I would like to mention here is that learning another language is a long process. Be ready to stay with your new language for at least two-three years.
  2. Consistency. Do your daily task every day, do not miss it! Make your study practice a habit.
  3. Be positive. Do not worry, if you think you are not making any progress. It is not about your capability to acquire a new language, it is about time. Know that it takes time to move to the next stage in everything.
  4. Take it easy. Do not make things difficult like forcing your brain to memorize everything. Make it easy and fun, so next time you'll be able to return your practice easily.
  5. Showing up. Focus spending the exact amount of time, instead of the result. The time you spend on a task at hand matters a lot.
  6. Keep moving. Never mind if you can not understand the subject or it is too difficult to grab the point. Just move to the next page.
  7. Various resources. Try to read many different types of books. Repeat your previous books several times. Do not stick with one or two books. You'll get different insight from the different textbooks.
  8. Breakthrough. When you come close to the end of the total period do some breakthrough practices such as, repeat everything in a short period, read real practical books, take the tests.
  9. Practice. Practice speaking, listening and writing. Be with native speakers or the people who are fluent in it.
  10. Deep work. Try deep engagement practice in your studies. Spend non-stop three, four hours learning once or twice a month.
  11. Compound effect. Adding little into your knowledge reveals a huge compound benefit in the end.
