Grit by Angela Duckworth
The book tries to open some insights about the grit and it can be a good resource for improving oneself in accomplishing the task and achieving the goals. Below are my quick lessons from this book:
perseverance - an ability to work hard and overcome problems toward
the goals.
2. Double your effort. Author mentions below formula:
talent x effort = skill
skill x effort = achievement
Talent is a key, but it is not the only thing for the achievement. For achievement, we
are required to put a double effort.
3. Four components of grit:
- Interest is vital. Love what you do.
- Practice matters. Be able to put long hours for deliberate practice, and spend several years for your goals.
- The purpose is important. When you do something, have a goal that matters for yourself and others. The right purpose may change the whole story if you can link it to your activity with a useful purpose.
- Hope is a believing your ability, having a growth mindset, an ability to overcome failure, and an optimist view for tomorrow.
4. Supportive and demanding parenting is good care parenting.
5. Grit can be improved. Be with gritty people to increase your grit.
6. Grit (passion and perseverance) may improve one's life satisfaction level.
The conclusion is that goal, engagement, and hard work are essential parts of the process to accomplish something or to acquire mastery of something.
